3. PLAN AHEAD.

We recently got together with a client to workshop their vision for their property. This is one of our favorite parts of contracting, because we get to be a part of people’s adventure as they make their dreams a reality.

We are there to provide options for the client based on what THEY want, versus what we know they are REQUIRED to have.

For example, one client wanted a sand mound septic system installed for their house.

However, they had several requests come out after asking lots of questions to them about how they planned to use their property.

They hadn’t thought of these at first, but they really wanted:

A clear view from their yard.
Enough room for them to run around with their dog in ALL types of weather.
They did NOT want to run their septic under their driveway.
The ability to see their home from most points on the property.
Space for a future garage.
They needed to place the mound in an area where it wasn’t in the way for hunting or ATVs.

We were SO glad we got to hash out these requests in advance. It saved us time, and helped us to know exactly what the client wanted.

Many contractors think their clients prefer rushing through the job and trying to read the client’s mind.

We have learned the opposite: spend more time in the planning phase, and you will actually save more time in the long run!
